Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Polish Cardiac Society and the Organizing Committee of the Congress we have pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 8th International Congress of our Society, which will be held in Warsaw 15th-18th September 2004.

2004 is set to be a special year for Polish cardiology. It marks the 50th anniversary of the Polish Cardiac Society, a unique opportunity to call to mind the achievements of many generations of Polish Cardiologists. To mark the occasion, the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Aleksander Kwaśniewski, has accepted the honorary patronage of the Jubilee Congress of our Society.

This year is also noteworthy as Professor Michał Tendera begins his term of office as President of the European Cardiac Society, the first Pole to do so. Leading cardiologists from Europe and all over the world have confirmed that they will be participating in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Polish Cardiac Society. It is going to be a a unique Congress, not only an important scientific and scholarly event, but also a social experience.

We are convinced that there will be something of interest to everyone in this year's Congress. The programme includes scientific and teaching sessions, panel discussions and debates and also lectures by experts in cardiology from Poland  and abroad. We have a unique opportunity to learn from the achievements of different centres of cardiology and to exchange experiences with recognised authorities in the fields of cardiology and cardiac surgery. We encourage you to present your own experience and to encounter the cardiology of the 21st century. The Jubilee Congress will be held in the attractive interiors of The Grand and The National Theatres located in the beautiful surroundings of Old Warsaw. The atmosphere of these places will be conductive to reflection but also inspire ideas for the future.

We wish you all this and we are therefore inviting cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, practitioners in internal medicine and other specialists involved in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease to attend the Congress.

You must not miss such an important event for Polish Cardiology and the Polish Cardiac Society.

We look forward to meeting you in Warsaw!
